Powered by broccoli
French researchers say vitamin K helps prevent bone loss in astronauts
on extended space voyages, when the bone loss process appears to
speed up. The vitamin also has an impact on bone health for those
of us who never leave the embrace of Mother Earth.
Nutrio.com
explains the vitamin is abundant in green leafy vegetables such
as broccoli, spinach, and kale, as well as plant oils and margarines
made from soybeans and canola. Vitamin K is also found in eggs,
meat, milk, and fruits such as strawberries and oranges.
Doctors recommend 120 micrograms of vitamin K each day for men
and 90 micrograms for women. A half cup of raw broccoli contains
60 micrograms.
You're more than halfway there with a helping of The New Homemaker's
broccoli peanut salad.
Dotty
for dumplings
If you ever get to Tao of Tea in Portland, Oregon, and notice a
rotund lady in a blue-and-black cotton shawl eating dumplings and
drinking darjeeling, that's The New Homemaker. She's crazy for their
dumplings, and willing to share
her recipe, which includes bok choy, celery, Chinese broccoli
and, when she's in the mood, even cilantro.
Mountain
of debt
She's carrying $30,000 in debt, much of it on high-interest credit
cards that are mostly maxed out. Should she declare bankruptcy?
The New Homemaker's Miserly Mom suggests a credit
counseling agency may be the answer to problems with paying
bills.
What if you have the cash, but you just hate paying those bills?
They pile up and, before you know it, late fees are eating into
your discretionary funds. Wouldn't you rather go out for dinner
than pay a Mastercard late fee? Try the bill paying ritual suggested
by ispiritus.com.
You'll need a shoebox, a special pen, and an "attitude of gratitude,"
but you'll be surprised how good it feels to pay those bills.
